BHB Academy is a national award winning training Academy specialising in Barbering, Hairdressing, (Beauty) Makeup and NCEA Vocational Pathway. Based in Palmerston North covering the Manawatu we specialise in all personal services training at our state of art facilities that have been designed for each discipline.

Barbering: We have a designer built Barbershop for our Barbers studying NZ Certificate in Barber Skills and NZ Certificate in Commercial Barbering. The course involves Theory, workshops, demos, guest artists, in house competitions and above all 90% practical on the floor training.
Our graduates are exposed to photo competitions, regional competitions and community work (helping others) as part of our holistic approach to real life experiences in the industry. We have good links to the industry and Barbershops crying out for our graduates to come and work for them. So a job at the end of the course will be pretty much guaranteed if you are committed and have good attendance.

Hairdressing: This has been our core business for many years as we offer NZ Certificate in Salon Support Level 3, NZ Certificate in Emerging Stylist Level 4. We also hold the HITO contract for all Hairdressing Apprenticeship Training. With our Integrated teaching practises you will be on practically on the floor 90% of the time while studying here.
This gives you plenty of experience developing your skills and timing ready to enter the industry. We are the ‘Go To Place’ for employers who are recruiting staff for their businesses. The industry trust our training, they know how successful our students are at competition work, photographic work and skills that we teach.
We have exciting ‘Passion & Purpose before Skill’ model that we teach by. So we get you very excited about the industry well before the hard stuff to learn kicks in.

Makeup: We have a high end Beauty space has we teach the NZ Certificate in Makeup & Skin Care. This is a 6 month course teaching all the basics in preparation, skills and the latest looks in makeup.
Our students are exposed to regional competitions including photo competitions, which they work hand in hand with our Hairdressers and Barbers mastering their looks for the competitions. We delve into Halloween and Christmas looks for a bit of fun. This is an exciting course to start your Makeup Artistry career at.

NCEAVP Salon Skills: This course is aligned to learners that do not have NCEA Level 2 yet. We integrate the necessary NCEA units into practically applied training in the fields of Barbering, Hairdressing and Makeup. So leaners can try all three disciplines of just one if they prefer. So all practical time allowed will be learning what a Salon Skills job would be like. This is the job description of this learner and we have Salons and Barbershops wanting support and we even send these learners into placements if they are on track with learning, skills, attitude and personal presentation.
This is the perfect pre course to any of our Level 3 courses that we offer. Entry criteria is 16-19 year olds. These learners are part of the Youth Guarantee Funding which is a Free Fees course. Travel money will be paid to the student on their attendance.
